The Action Committee plays an integral role in promoting service-learning on campus. Committee members organize and lead training sessions, reflection activities, and organizational meetings for service-learning project managers. Also, working in concert with the Steering Committee, Action Committee members visit classes to explain service-learning opportunities to students and participate in First Week activities that introduce incoming freshmen to service-learning at Bentley.
The Mentoring Committee plays a vital role in BSLC that allows the center continually to develop new student and community leaders. The Committee has created “The Power Network” that pairs veteran service-learning student mentors with new service-learning students. The network’s goal is to establish supportive and trusting relationships between experienced and new students through a consistency of information and strong array of resources. Through the Power Network, mentors and new students alike are encouraged to challenge one another to think outside the box and envision what they can do as leaders to enhance the future of the service-learning.
The Steering Committee plays the lead role in promoting the work of the Bentley Service-Learning Center (BSLC) both on campus and in the wider community. To accomplish these tasks, the committee works on projects that support the growth of BSLC through the dissemination of information about the center’s mission and how students, faculty, and community partners can get involved. Two recent projects include the development of a newsletter and the planning for an informational video. In its on-campus activities, the Steering Committee regularly collaborates with the Action Committee.
The role of the Senior Student Coordinators is to act as a liaison between BSLC student leaders and the faculty and administrative staff. The Coordinators help to manage the three student committees within the center and act as both resources and support for all students involved in service-learning. Most importantly, the coordinators collaborate regularly with the administrative staff to assure consistency in the functioning of the center and to facilitate the dissemination of important information to ensure that all BSLC programs are run efficiently and effectively.
