The Bentley Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (BLITC) provides FREE tax assistance to low-income taxpayers, evaluated on a person-by-person basis.
The BLITC Management Team consists of a program director, experienced tax faculty, and Bentley University graduate students. We offer assistance to low income taxpayers in the Northeast Region.
We are completely independent of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Please note: the BLITC is not part of the 4th-credit option program.

Getting Started
How Can We Help?
- We can help you decide if you need to pay your taxes, or file a tax return
- We can explain if you are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit
- We can help you apply for an IRS taxpayer identification number (ITIN)
- We can help you if you get a letter or notice from the IRS
How the Process Begins
- You can call the BLITC and speak to someone about your tax questions
- He or she will ask you some general questions
- The BLITC will decide if we can help you
- The services provided are FREE!!!
Who will help you?
The BLITC Management Team is made up of a program director, professors who are tax professionals, and MBA and Master of Taxation students.
- Graduate students will help you.
- These students are oftentimes Certified Public Accountants
- They work with the director of the Bentley Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic and are supervised by the professors at Bentley University
What is Low Income?
- If you are a single person and you make $27,075 a year or less, for each additional person in your family, add $9,350.
- Example: A three-person family with an income of $45,775 can get help from BLITC.
Workshops
The Bentley Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (BLITC) holds tax education workshops in local communities to educate individuals regarding their rights and responsibilities as taxpayers. The workshops consist of informal presentations, during which the management team is available to answer questions. The workshop information includes:
- The purpose of BLITC and how it can assist taxpayers
- Which individuals must file a tax return
- The benefits of the Earned Income Tax Credit and who qualifies
- The rights and responsibilities of taxpayers
- How to get a Tax Identification Number
- Confidentiality at the BLITC
We have worked with many community agencies in the past including:
- ESL classes
- Clergy
- Woman's shelters
- Veterans Programs
- Catholic Charities
- Jewish Vocational Services
